Description: The ITLS Course is to prepare emergency health care providers to knowledgeably and skillfully perform the rapid assessment, resuscitation, packaging, stabilization and transport of the trauma patient. The course includes lectures and interactive skill stations to provide for the application and integration of knowledge and skills to case based scenarios. Prior study of the text is required.

Objectives:

  • Students will demonstrate the proper steps in managing a trauma patient as it relates to the ITLS Primary Survey, Ongoing Exam and Secondary Exam.
  • Students will demonstrate key patient management skills including airway management, rapid extrication and discuss the new technology available in treating trauma patients.
  • Students will demonstrate key cognitive concepts of ITLS including spinal trauma and patient-centered spinal motion restriction.
