Description: This presentation will discuss the complications of frostbite and the care management considerations through case scenarios. When to rewarm and when to keep frozen in transport. Indications for utilization of thrombolytics and when the clock starts for using it. New treatment considerations in the care of the hypothermic and frostbit patient.
Objectives:
- Discuss the consequences of hypothermia and frostbite to the body.
- Describe the rewarming process for a patient with frozen extremities or frostbite.
- Identify key management strategies for a patient with frostbite and hypothermia.
- List one new treatment consideration for the care of a hypothermic and frostbitten patient.
